Contact area as a function of tyre inflation pressure
The contact area of six different tyres was measured as a function of the tyre inflation pressure. In all tyres, a decrease of the tyre inflation pressure led to an increase in contact area. The tyre inflation pressure at which the contact area increases the most depends on the type of tyre used. A new equation was established in order to calculate the contact area on the basis of tyre size, tyre diameter and inflation pressure. This equation was calculated by means of multiple regression.
