Silage additives and aerobic stability: test results 2010

When using efficient silage additives the aerobic instability can be reduced.
The Liebefeld-Posieux Research Station ALP tested the silage additive Schaumasil supra NK meant for improving the aerobic stability of maize silages. In addition to a negative control without additives, a positive control with Luprosil was taken into account. The trials were conducted with silage maize of the Amadeo variety with dry-matter (DM) contents of 33 % and 36 %, ensiled in 1,5-litre laboratoryscale silos. The storage period lasted 56 days. All silages showed a very good fermentation quality. The silages without additives warmed up very fast after opening the silos. The silages of the positive control with Luprosil as well as as the variant with Schaumasil supra NK improved the aerobic stability. Based on these results, the product Schaumasil supra NK was now definitively authorized for the improvement of aerobic stability.
