Linseed (Linum usitatissimum): this crop is ready to be grown by Swiss farmers

Winter or spring sown linseed can now benefit of a state financial support, as well as other oil crops. Its use will be mainly as an animal feed to improve the Omega-3 fatty acids content of animal products. Based on a series of experiments carried out at the Swiss agronomic research Station Agroscope RAC Changins until 1999, and with foreign references, recommendations can be made for the crop husbandry, as seed density, N-fertilization, crop rotation, and climatic constraints that must be taken into account for a successful harvest.
